Shutter Island
You have a better chance of enjoying this movie if you avoid any media on it. My brother and I avoided trailers and reviews and we loved it.
Shot well, manages to create dread without cheesing out. Solid performances from the supporters (Williams, Ruffalo, Kingsley, von Sydow), but I always struggle to take DiCaprio seriously. He was all right.
You’ll hear complaints about the ending’s length, but try taking that time to consider prior scenes. A few (chat with the warden, interviews with staff, inmate monologues) take on new meaning.
Worth the $10, but you don’t have to watch this in theaters (as opposed to, say, Hurt Locker). 3 out of 4 in my book (above-average, worth your time).
